Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using Juliapp (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. The Service is operated by DBEK, 75 rue de Lourmel, 75015 Paris, France.

2. Description of Service

Juliapp is a community-powered safety mapping platform that allows users to report safety incidents, navigate with safety-aware routing, trigger emergency alerts, and communicate with their community. Juliapp does not replace emergency services. In case of immediate danger, always call your local emergency number (15, 17, 18, or 112 in France/EU).

3. Who the Service is for

Juliapp is a service for protection against sexist and sexual violence, designed for women and reserved for them. Opening an account requires verification that the person is an adult woman.

The Service is provided in France by DBEK and is governed by French law. This restriction rests on Article 4(5) of Directive 2004/113/EC and on Article 2 of French Law No. 2008-496 of 27 May 2008, which allow a difference of treatment where the supply of goods and services exclusively or mainly intended for members of one sex is justified by a legitimate aim and the means of achieving that aim are appropriate and necessary.

A service mainly intended for women. Reporting sexist and sexual violence, proximity alerts and journey companionship address an exposure to danger that women predominantly face in public space.

A legitimate aim. To protect women against such violence, and to allow them to share safety information in a space where they need not fear being observed by a potential aggressor.

Proportionate means. Men are not excluded from the protective function of the Service. Anyone, regardless of sex and without an account, may receive a user’s emergency alert and follow it by means of a single-use link. Only access to an account and to the community space is reserved.

4. Account Registration

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
  • You must provide accurate information and keep your account secure.
  • You are responsible for all activity under your account.
  • One account per person. Duplicate or fake accounts may be terminated.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or malicious safety reports.
  • Use the SOS system for non-emergency purposes.
  • Harass, threaten, or target other users.
  • Post content that is illegal, hateful, discriminatory, or sexually explicit.
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or private data.
  • Use automated tools to scrape data or abuse the Service.
  • Circumvent moderation, bans, or security measures.

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban.

6. User-Generated Content

  • You retain ownership of content you create (reports, photos, messages).
  • By posting, you grant Juliapp a worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, distribute, and process your content as part of the Service.
  • Juliapp may remove content that violates these Terms or community guidelines.
  • Reports may be anonymised and used in aggregate to improve community safety.

7. Juliapp Pro Subscription

  • Juliapp Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription.
  • Payment is processed by Stripe. Prices are displayed before purchase.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings → Billing.
  • Refunds are handled per Stripe's refund policy and applicable consumer protection laws.
  • Under EU law, you have a 14-day withdrawal right for digital subscriptions, which you waive upon accessing Pro features.

8. Emergency Features Disclaimer

Juliapp provides tools to alert your contacts and share your location in emergencies. However, Juliapp is not an emergency service. We do not guarantee response times, availability, or the accuracy of user-generated safety data. Always contact official emergency services (112, 15, 17, 18) when in danger.

9. Identity verification

Opening an account requires identity verification carried out by our provider Didit. It relies on reading an official identity document and comparing it with a selfie, in order to establish that the document belongs to the person presenting it.

Only three elements are retained: the sex recorded on the document, the date of birth, and a technical fingerprint of the document preventing the same document from being used for several accounts. Neither the document nor the facial image is retained by Juliapp.

Verification establishes an identity; it implies neither endorsement nor a background check. Juliapp is not responsible for the acts of verified users.

Decision and appeal. No refusal is final on the sole basis of automated processing. Any person whose application is refused may, within thirty days, obtain a review of their case by a natural person by writing to contact@juliapp.io. This review is a matter of right, in particular where the sex recorded on the document does not correspond to the person’s gender.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Juliapp and DBEK are not liable for: (a) the accuracy of user-generated safety reports, (b) any harm arising from reliance on the Service, (c) service interruptions or data loss, (d) actions of other users. The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind.

11. Intellectual Property

The Juliapp name, logo, design, and software are the property of DBEK. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without written permission.

12. Termination

You may delete your account at any time (Settings → Privacy → Delete Account). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Where verification results in a refusal, the account is closed and access to the Service ends. Data strictly necessary to examine an appeal and to prevent a further attempt is retained for thirty days from notification, then deleted. Content published from that account is removed from the map.

13. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by French law. Any disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of Paris, France. For EU consumers, mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence may also apply.

14. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

  • Required permissions: location (SOS, escort), contacts (Lifelines), notifications (alerts)
